Photographer Spotlight Series: Oneiroi Photography

I'm very excited to have Maria from Oneiroi Photography (Oneiroi meaning 'my dreams') on the Photographer Spotlight Series today.

Maria is a fabulous photographer who focuses on nature, landscapes and travel photography. She has traveled to a wide variety of locations which you can check out on her website; including places like Japan, Spain, Canada, and around the U.S. Her images draw you in immediately and capture the location she is photographing really well. What makes her photographs even more amazing is the unique angles and composition she showcases. She provides a variety of different subjects which means you can spend a lot of time going through her albums and be inspired or just to simply go on a mental vacation!

I hope you enjoy learning more about Maria as much as I did!

My name is Maria and I am the photographer behind ONEIROI PHOTOGRAPHY

What type(s) of photography are you currently doing?

Currently I am mainly focused on travel photography, both cityscapes and landscapes, but I also enjoy to photograph portraits and events whenever I have the opportunity.

What does photography mean to you?

A tool for keeping the beauty of what you see. A way of expression, to see the world, wishing to capture it forever.

What type of gear do you use?

Currently I have a Nikon D5200 with two lenses for my two favorite types of photography; a 16-85 mm f/3.5 - 5.6 and a 50mm 1.8mm.

How did you get started in photography?

When I was a teenager, I collected pictures from all kinds of magazines. Unlike the rest of my friends, they were not pictures of my favorite singers or actors, but pictures that I liked just because.

At that time I knew nothing about composition, focus, etc., I just saw pictures that I fell in love with and collected. Years later I bought my first DSLR camera with my first income and my relationship with the photography became stronger.

Who is your favorite photographer and why?

This is a difficult question! There are many of them. I began to follow Jake Olson from Nebraska recently. I really like his style. His portraits are inspiring.

What is one photography lesson you have learned the hard way?

Success and recognition require a large dose of patience and time.

Among your photography, which piece is your favorite and why?

It's a picture of a family playing with a kite on a hill with the sun setting and an airplane flying over them (pictured below). It was not a planned picture at all, in fact I don't know the people in the photograph but it was a perfect composition. It's a good example of how the world is full of beautiful scenes if we are able to look further and keep a close eye on it.

What is your favorite thing to photograph?

With photography you can capture and conserve emotions and also create them. And you are always learning. It is possible to improve every day a little more.

What goals do you have for your photography?

Always improve. I would like also to get more into portraits and give more visibility to my photography website. And...I will be offering a new service soon.

Are you working on any specific photography projects right now? If so, what are they?

My main project right now is to showcase my photography collection made up of many photographs taken over the last 10 years in many places around the world. It takes a while not only to put all of them in order, but also to pick out the best ones. Moreover, I am working on an exposition that will take place  in Bellevue, WA.

Whose work influences you the most?

Anybody who amazes me with his/her photography makes me want to improve and amaze others.

Do you sell your photography? If so, where can we find it?

Yes. I have my own website where it is possible to purchase pictures as prints in different finishing and mounting options as well as cards and downloads.

Anything else we should know about you?

I love life, I love traveling I love seeing beyond our day-to-day environment. I love capturing those little things that are all around us. Watch out because I might be taking a picture of you!
